Natural stone looks beautiful in any environment. However, to ensure this beauty lasts it is important to make sure that your stone is properly maintained. Whether you are looking for a simple clean and re-seal of your vanity units or you are looking to hone and polish your tabletops. Stonelab has the solution for you.
Providing your stone worktop has not been affected by staining such as etch marks or scratching; it is sensible to have your stone worktops or vanity units cleaned and re-sealed at least once every 12-24 months. Just like with our stone floor cleaning services, the first stage of any project is to ensure that adequate protection is applied to any delicate surfaces surrounding the cleaning area. Once we have ensured protective plastic sheeting has been installed across all risk areas, we can then start to progress upon the first stage of our cleaning process. We start by applying a specialist Ph neutral cleaning solution to the stone before allowing the solution to sit and agitate any dirt or grease molecules trapped within the pores of the stone. We would then pass over the section with our hand-held rotary machine equipped with a soft cleaning pad not only to clean the surface of the material but also to further agitate any remaining dirt molecules, releasing them from the pores of the stone. The stone can then be rinsed off and allowed to completely dry. Once dry we can start to explore the many different sealing options for your stone. The honing your stone worktops is a multi-stage process. Just like with our stone floor honing services, the first stage of any project is to ensure that adequate protection is applied to any delicate surfaces surrounding the cleaning area. Once we have ensured protective plastic sheeting has been installed across all risk areas, we can then start to progress upon the first stage of the honing process. The idea of honing is to create a matte to mid-sheen finish to the stone but also to remove scratches and etch marks. To achieve this, we use our specialist countertop planetary grinding machine equipped with resin bonded plates to slowly remove layers of the material down to below the level of damage. This will create a uniform base level for us to build a sheen upon. By equipping a tri set of diamond bonded polishing pads to the our counter top grinder we start to increase the sheen by slowly closing the natural pores of the stone, making them much denser. As the pores in the stone become more compact the natural sheen of the stone begins to increase. Once we have reached your desired level of sheen, we can move onto arguably the most important stage of the honing process. The sealing of the stone. It is vitally important to ensure the correct sealing process is being followed post honing. At Stonelab we have a wide range of premium sealing products available and so it is very important that we provide you with the most appropriate sealing service for your stone. Once we have ensured protective plastic sheeting has been installed across all risk areas, we can then start to progress upon the first stage of the polishing process. In order to achieve a uniform end result we must first hone the stone to remove any scratching or etching that may be present on the surface. This creates a clean canvas for us to start building shine upon. To achieve this, we use our specialist countertop planetary grinding machine equipped with resin bonded plates to slowly resurface layers of the material down to below the level of damage. Once at this level we can start to increase the sheen of the stone by equipping a tri set of diamond bonded polishing pads to the our counter top grinder. This will start to increase the sheen by slowly closing the natural pores of the stone, making them much denser. As the pores in the stone become more compact the natural sheen of the stone begins to increase. By passing over the stone three times using three different levels of polishing diamonds, we can further compact the pores of the stone to further increase the sheen of the stone to match a polished finish. Once we have reached your desired level of shine, we can move onto arguably the most important stage of the polishing process. The sealing of the stone. It is vitally important to ensure the correct sealing process is being followed post resurfacing.
